How in the world do seemingly regular people just like you and me end up as stars on HGTV’s highest rated show premier in the past decade?

Before solving that mystery here’s a bit about the show Flipping the Block: The premise of the show is that couples each renovate one of four dilapidated condos in the same block. Not that big of a challenge, except that that must LIVE IN them while they renovate them!

These are not ocean front condos like you might see on Amelia Island or even like those you see elsewhere around Jacksonville. These junkers were abandoned in the heart of Los Angeles!

They’ve got dead bugs everywhere, mold in the strangest places, rotten food in the cabinets and holes in the walls. And the bathrooms….disgusting!

When the renovations are complete the homes will be sold at auction. The couple whose renovation sells for the highest bid wins a $50,000 cash prize!

Whitney and John Spinks were much like other young couples as do-it-yourselfer’s renovating their first home in Jacksonville. Whitney had a real eye for design, and with John serving as the couples contractor there’s was a match made in heaven.

They were having such a great time together and the makeover was so amazing that Whitney could not help but share her enthusiasm for all that they were accomplishing.   She created the blog “Drab to Fab” to showcase the dream home that was making its way from their hearts to their hands as they transformed a rather average house into home that was the envy of all who saw it.

And lots of people saw it! Thousands of people from around the world became regular visitors to “Drab to Fab”. People were really enjoying the pictures and posts as the home was being transformed by the dynamic duo. Among those thousands of visitors was an HGTV producer looking for a special couple to pitch for the pilot of the HGTV show “Flipping the Block”!

Flipping the Block is hosted by Josh Temple from the DIY Network show “House Crashers”. In addition to working with Josh they have also been able to work with such HGTV luminaries Scott McGillivray of “Income Property” and Nicole Curtis from “Rehab Addict”. Pretty cool company!

The value of the HGTV experience and exposure has not been lost on John and Whitney. They have learned well what it takes to impress not only potential home renovators, but also home buyers.  Their Jacksonville based company 27 South Design Group has developed staging and styling packages that are fast attracting interest among home builders and remodelers as well as home buyers and sellers.

Looking for a way to drive traffic to your listings?  What might a buyer say to the idea of seeing a house styled and staged by a pair of HGTV stars?  That’s something different to market!

A super cool idea would be to host an open house styled and staged by 27 South Design Group with tours of the home featuring Whitney and John!  Add to that an announcement on WOKV during the Home and Garden show and some folks just might stop bye!

Be sure to tune in to “Flipping the Block” Sunday’s at 9 PM on HGTV, check out John and Whitney’s personal renovation at www.DrabtoFabDesign.com or see their staging and styling portfolio at www.27SouthDesignGroup.com
